Basic Pistol (fulfills CT pistol permit requirements)
NRA Range Safety Officer Course
————————-
Basic Pistol
This course fulfills the training requirements of the Connecticut Pistol Permit.
The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course is a one-day safety training course that meets and exceeds the State of Connecticut requirement for pistol permit application. Attendees are encouraged to visit their local Police Departments and get an application form which should be brought to the class for questions and Instructor sign off.
My goal is not to have you “just pass a course”, but that you come away with a solid grounding in the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for the safe operation and ownership of firearms. Everyone who enrolls in this course is treated as an individual learner. Ample opportunity is provided for students to ask questions, discuss issues, and inspect and handle a variety of handguns.
This course consists of six hours of classroom training involving safe gun handling and basic firearms discussion. The student should ask questions and also expect to handle real handguns throughout the day. Opportunity will be available for gaining familiarity with both revolver and semi-automatic pistols. The classroom portion also includes a multiple-choice, true/false exam.
Featured Course Topics:
- Gun Safety Rules for Storage and Use
- Demonstration & Handling of the Revolver
- Demonstration & Handling of the Semi-Auto
- Ammunition Knowledge
- Pistol Selection, Use & Activities
When handling of firearms is required in any class, SAFETY is the priority. No live ammunition is handled in the classroom. On this issue, strict observance of the safety rules will be enforced. Firearms safety and handling will be discussed at length during the classroom portion of the instruction. When you get to the live fire stage of training, warnings will be given for safety violations. Because of the inherent danger involved with a mixed group of students handling firearms, repeated violations of the basic safety rules will result in the student failing the course.
Students will then participate in the range portion including live fire of multiple pistols and safe gun handling. Every student’s live fire experience will be directly supervised. An official Basic Pistol Certificate is provided to each graduate of the course upon successful completion.
Successful completion of this course enables graduates to pursue the “Connecticut Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers” and to meet handgun purchase and/or carry permits in other states or jurisdictions where this NRA-certified course is a basic requirement. Since this course emphasizes firearms safety, the practices and procedures will be of benefit to you for life, no matter what may be your personal interests in handguns.
The course includes use of firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and all training materials. Course runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
